Mexico City

Wow, Mexico City...our experience here has been absolutely wonderful. In a city with one of the highest populations in the world, you think we'd like it less. But, there were always things to be done every single day. We are staying at Casa de los Amigos, which is a Quaker-run Peace and Justice Center. Our friend Gia has been volunteering at the Casa and found us a room . The Casa is located in a great neighborhood that's close to many good places to eat, the metro, markets, etc...

We've seen so much I don't even know where to start. We've seen the Zocalo, the Templo Mayor, the Anthropology Museum, The National Historical Museum (but we didn't get to see much of it because they kept telling us something but we couldn't figure it out due to our lack of Spanish so we'd just smile and turn ... awkward), we saw a few parks, the Presidential Palace, some of Diego Rivera's murals, Frida Kahlo's house, we went to a roof party with an awesome view and an out-if-tune band (where again, the language barrier made Monte and I sit in the corner by ourselves...but it was still cool), then probably our favorite was Teotihucan (the third largest pyramids in the world).

We've done a lot of walking, a lot of eating, not a lot of majorly upset stomachs, and tomorrow we leave for Oaxaca. We will be there for at least three nights and maybe more depending on how much we like it. Then we head to the Oaxacan coast where we will take our time making our way up to Zihuatanejo where we will be for a week (thanks to Mark and Colleen), and then back to Mexico City.

I'm sure we'll post more along the way. I hope all is well :)

Stop #1

Greetings to all! Here we are at our first stop in our journey. (We've actually been here for a couple weeks...) We are staying at Ben, Sherri, and Matt's house here in Bellingham. They have been very gracious hosts and we are very grateful for that.

Next Tuesday (the 19th), we will drive down to Seattle and stay at a friend's house, then catch a cab at 4AM to head to the airport. We won't arrive in Mexico City until later in the evening, so it will be a lot of waiting around time. I guess that's what happens when you get the cheaper tickets...We will stay in Mexico City for around a week then journey to wherever word of mouth takes us! We will be in Mexico for a month until we head to Cambodia.

Our next post will be from Mexico!
